Consortium AGM 2005
Date: 13th April 2005
Time: 7:00pm
Location: Wymering Community Centre, Sevenoaks Road.
Apologies: Penny Rance, Paul Raymond, Michael Gunton, Lynne Rigby, Chris Furness, Dr Tim Hands, John Sackett, Mr M Taki-Jaffer.
John Phillipson welcomed everyone to the meeting and updated all on the past year. The Executive has met monthly since its inception at Tiger Tiger. It all started with the Cultural Strategy document. Culture is anything that we do, the way we live and the things we enjoy. From a picnic in the park to arts and theatre, anything we have an interest in. Portsmouth City Council has undergone a large restructuring process as a result we had to wait until September before we had a meeting with Cllr Terry Hall and Barbara Thompson, the Strategic Director for Economy, Culture and Community Safety.
In November 2004 Steve Baily was appointed as Head of Culture. Since his appointment we have an office space and admin support. We have a website that we try to keep up to date with information so as to keep you all informed. http://www.cultural-consortium.co.uk. In January we held an open meeting at the 3rd Floor Arts Centre, minutes from this meeting are on the website. We lobbied all the Councillors and Strategic Directors prior to the Full Council in February in support of Aspex Gallery’s move to Gunwharf Quays. We are starting to make our voice heard. During the past year there have been lots of positives during the past year and for the future here are just a few. The New Theatre Royal has reopened after refurbishment. Kings Theatre has been given £600k support. Commercial Road and Arundel Street Arts Project. Portsmouth Football Club have had planning permission approved. Progress on the Waterfront Branding. The Conan Doyle Bequest. Sea Britain, Trafalgar 200 and International Festival of the Sea in the summer 2005. Isambard Brunel. John offered his thanks to Tim Stokes, Mark Courtice and Janet de Bathe who have all been a part of the first year of the Cultural Consortium Executive, but unfortunately could no longer spare the time to continue.
Rod McLean then took over the running of the AGM and the nominations for re election are John Phillipson, Jonathan Fost, Peter Wainwright, Martin Chalk, Mary Vallely, Mark Scarborough and Nick Bain. These nominations were accepted by a show of hands. The nominations for election to the Executive were read out, Joanne Bushnell, Sean Bowman, Emma Wright and Kathryn Denham. These nominations were also accepted by a show of hands. The Executive committee will elect a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer at the next available meeting. There were presentations to all by Val van der Hoven about Sea Britain and by Helen Thompson-Whiteside on the Waterfront Branding.
The meeting was concluded and a Drum workshop, by Drumwave followed and a chance for all to take refreshments and time for networking. Meeting concluded 9pm.
