Who we are - A brief introduction to Portsmouth’s Cultural Strategy
In 2004, Portsmouth City Council published our first Cultural Strategy. We had spent many months working with hundreds of city organisations, groups and individuals to develop this new strategy, which is available to anyone who wants a copy, online or in brochure form. This leaflet is a brief introduction to our city’s Cultural Strategy.
Why Create A Cultural Strategy?
All local authorities have been strongly encouraged to develop plans to improve the cultural richness and strength of their cities or regions. Our strategy is about planning for Portsmouth’s future, to make sure it becomes an increasingly attractive, vibrant place for us all to live and work in. We want to be a creative and confident city with a strong sense of community, with many opportunities for us all to keep learning and fulfilling our potential.
Who Is The Strategy For?
Since the strategy is about securing our city’s future as a confident and exciting place to be, it affects all of us who live and work here. Anyone with any interest in Portsmouth’s cultural life is invited and encouraged to join us in getting involved. We have created a Cultural Consortium, a group led by local residents, to help make sure that all the promises in the strategy are delivered. Please do consider getting involved with the Consortium.
